Vacuum Extractors

These Vacuum Extractors are used along with a vacuum pump to obtain a quantitative measurement of bitumen in hot-mixed paving mixtures and pavement samples. Both extractors are available in aluminum or stainless steel construction and consists of a detachable 12" filter funnel ring with 3000 gram capacity. The B3241 and B3242 included a fluid reservoir with 2 sight glasses, a drain valve, vacuum gauge, side handles and filter support. One pack of filter paper is also included. The vacuum pump is not included, however, we recommend model G8251. The Free Standing Vacuum Extractors B3246 & B3247 are used along with a vacuum pump to obtain a quantitative measurement of bitumen in hot-mixed paving mixtures and pavement samples. Both extractors are available in aluminum or stainless steel construction and consists of a detachable 12" filter funnel ring with 3000 gram capacity. The units are furnished with 10' of vacuum hose and with filter support.

Gooch Bitumen Crucible

The Gooch crucible is used to determine the solubility of bituminous materials such as road tars and petroleum asphalts containing little or no mineral matter. The crucible retains the asphalt material that is left after filtering with organic solvent. Constructed from porcelain with perforated bottom. Dimensions are 44mm top x 36mm bottom x 25mm deep.

Specific Gravity Bottle

The B5501 (Hubbard) featuring a straight side is for determining the specific gravity of road oils, tar, asphalt and cement. The solid stopper has a hole approximately 1.6 mm in dia. through the center to allow air to escape. The B5511 (Hubbard-Carmick) features a tapered side utilized for determining the specific gravity of viscous and semisolid bitumen.

Residual - Pressure Manometer

This manometer incorporates a heavy-walled glass U-tube column and a separate base tube with stopcocks. It also features a sliding scale graduated above and below zero to 130 x 1 mm. To use the manometer, the left hose connection is connected to the system to be measured, and the right hose connection is connected to the vacuum pump. The manometer is mounted on a wooden stand.

Digital Vacuum Manometer

Designed as a safe and environment friendly unit for lab tests. The unit is a portable hand held device (battery operated) that can be moved around the lab with ease or permanently mounted to a bench or wall using the 110 Vac power supply provided. It features a 4-1/2 digit display to one decimal place and a 1/4" barb fitting on the top for making quick connections. When the unit is battery operated it features an automatic shutoff after 20 minutes to save power. The B5548C optional NIST traceable certificate is also available. Water Baths

The B9109 & B9110 are thermostatically controlled and fully insulated water baths which are capable of heating up to twelve 4" diameter Marshall specimens at a time. Shelf supports molds to allow water to surround 2" above and below the molds. The exterior and tank are constructed from stainless steel. The I.D. of the tanks are 11-1/2" x 19-1/2" x 8" deep and has a capacity of 7.76 gal (29.398 liters). The B9118 & B9118E are similar except that they are equipped with a magnetic circulator. The fully insulated B9118a Water Bath is controlled by a microprocessor for accuracy to 0.1% of input span. The dual digital displays simultaneously shows set point and process temperature. Samples are supported by a shelf which allows free circulation of 2" of water above and below. All exposed parts are stainless steel. The B9118B Extra Large Capacity Water Bath is ideal for the larger samples used in Superpave and Marshall test applications. The bath features a microprocessor-based digital controller with built-in magnetic circulator for precise temperature control. The B9119 & B9119E are economical water baths which heat up to eight molds and also feature an automatic thermostatic control. The I.D. of these tanks are 11-1/2" x 19-1/2" x 8". Volumeters

These volumeters are used for making specific gravity determinations of compressed bituminous mixtures as specified by Pennsylvania Highway Department. Aluminum containers and tops are treated to provide maximum corrosion resistance, except B5565 which is Plexiglas with an aluminum top. Repeatability ±0.2 gm, with distilled water at 77°F.

Closed - End Residual Pressure Manometer

The B5550 bench model absolute pressure gauge is the standard laboratory manometer which is used with ASTM D-2041. The unit is mounted on a round metal base with opposing vacuum connections. This allows the manometer to be connected between the pump and vacuum chamber. The manometer has a range of 0 to 150 mm Hg. The scale reads 75 to 0 to 75 mm Hg in 1mm divisions. The G8279A Bleed Valve goes in-line in your vacuum system. Easily installs and allows you to precisely control the amount of vacuum applied during a test.

Zeitfuchs Viscosimeter

For measurement of kinematic viscosity of transparent and opaque Newtonian liquids. The Viscosimeter is also used to measure kinematic viscosity of cutback asphalts and road oils at 140°F (60°C) and asphalt cements at 275°F (135°C) in the range of 30 to 6000 centistokes. Can be filled and cleaned while in constant temperature bath. Minimum sample volume 1 to 3 ml. Required liquid bath depth of 230 mm (9"). All measurements are calibrated (precision ±0.3%). Supplied with permanently attached round metal holder, for hole 51 mm (2") in diameter. Certificate of calibration and instruction sheet provided.

Distillation Set Asphalt

This distillation apparatus is used with cutback asphaltic (bituminous) products. It determines residue content and separates volatile and nonvolatile cutback asphaltic products. Breaking Heads

The B9114 & B9115 Breaking heads consist of upper and lower cylindrical segments having an inside radius curvature of 3" for 6" sample and 2" for a 4" sample. Lower segment is mounted on a base; two perpendicular guide rods extend vertically from the base. One guide rod is larger than the other, with a correspondingly larger guide sleeve in the upper segment to assure correct assembly. The guide sleeves in the upper segment bring the two sections together without appreciable binding or loose motion on the guide rods. The B9116 & B9116L Lottman breaking heads are used along with the B9121 Marshall testing machine to determine the loss of strength in asphaltic concrete resulting from water saturation and accelerated water conditioning. SHRP has designated AASHTO T-283 as Superpave primary test method for moisture sensitivity. The breaking head is also used for determining resilient modulus using repeated load indirect tension test.

Distillation Set For Moisture

Same as the B6761 except the distilling receiver is a trap for moisture or volatile fractions of bitumen. The trap is graduated 0 to 5ml in 0.1ml divisions. The B6785 is furnished with a 25ml cap trap for volatile distillates. It is graduated 0.1ml from 0 to 1 ml, 0.1ml from 0 to 25ml.

Cleveland Flash Point Testers

These flash point testers determine the flash and fire points of petroleum products and other liquids, except fuel oils and those materials having an open cup flash point below 175°F ( 79°C ) as determined by the Cleveland open cup tester. We offer 3 models of Cleveland open cup flash testers. The first two testers utilize gas heaters while the third tester uses an electric heater. The testers come with a forged brass cup with handle, heating plate, thermometer holder, and supports. The testers are not supplied with thermometers, however, we offer the B7455 (ASTM 11F) open flash thermometer.
