Concrete Slump Testing Eqipment

The Hogentogler slump test equipment is used to determine the slump of freshly mixed concrete. Concrete is placed in the slump cone, tampered, then the cone is lifted and the height of the concrete is measured. The slump is the difference between the height of the cone and the height of the concrete after the cone has been lifted. The C7101 is constructed from seamless spun steel and is plated to prevent rusting. Foot lugs and handles are spot welded to the cone.

SingleUse Cylinder Molds

These are single use molds for making cylindrical concrete test specimens in the field or laboratory. The cardboard molds have firmly attached steel bottoms and are waxed on the inside to retain moisture and for ease of stripping. The plastic molds also retain moisture and do not adhere to the specimen. The C5097 Econo-O-Cure Field Curing System uses a thermostatically controlled heater with air circulating fan to assure consistent and evenly distributed heat. The unit holds up to eight 6" x 12" concrete test cylinders and is constructed from advanced polymers and vinyls with 1/2" cooler foam. The plastic molds are easily stripped using the C5088 stripping tool.

Cement Soundness Tester (Lechatelier)

The C3251 Cement Soundness Tester is a mold used to determine soundness of cement by measuring the expansion of cement when heated in an atmosphere of steam or boiling water. The tester consists of a brass split ring and two long parallel indicating arms. As cement expands the ring is spread and the increased distance between free ends of indicating arms gives an index of soundness.

Calibration Canister for Air Meters

These calibration canisters are for use with any 1/4 cu. ft.. air entrainment pressure meter. They provide a quick and accurate way to check your pressure meters calibration. The canisters represent 5% air by volume when placed in the meter bucket with water. Two calibration canisters will check 10% air by volume. The canisters come in two different models. The C4247 is constructed of plastic and is the economical version. The C4248 is constructed of brass and is the more durable of the canisters and also meets ASTM requirements.

Concrete Compression Molds

The C5021 6" x 12" mold is used with concrete compression testing. The wall thickness is 1/8" (3mm) steel. The mold is split along one side with 2 welded quick-acting clamps. When open, the mold springs apart slightly to allow specimen removal. The base plate is not included. The C5022 is very similar to the C5021 but is furnished with 1/4" steel detachable base plate. The C5031 & C5033 molds are designed with a 1/4" thick wall.

Concrete Pocket Penetrometer

The C2711 Concrete Pocket Penetrometer is used for determining the setting time of concrete mixtures by penetration resistance. When poured concrete reaches 500 psi the initial set or semi-hardened, partially-hydrated condition is reached when it can no longer be worked or consolidated by vibration. The C2711 gives instant field or laboratory estimates of concrete at a constant rate to 1" marked depths. The plunger has an area of 2 in2 and the 2-1/4" dia. dial is graduated both from 0-700 psi and 0-50 kg/cm2. Readings are locked until released by a side button. Also furnished is a carrying case.

Tube Samplers

The C3121 and C3125 are used for sampling hydraulic cement. The C3121 is the bulk sampler which has two slotted telescoping polished brass tubes with registered slots (with partitions) that open or close by rotation of the inner tube, the outside one having a sharp penetration point. The sampler is 1-3/8" dia x 63" long. The C3125 package sampler is a brass tube with diagonal end, air hole and a hardwood handle. The unit is 1-1/4" dia x 28-3/4" long.

Void Content Apparatus

The C9458 Void Content Apparatus determines the loose uncompacted void content of a sample of fine aggregate. Measuring the aggregates void content provides the angularity, sphericity, and surface texture. This method has been approved by SHRP to indicate the effect of the aggregate on the workability of a mixture in which it may be used. Samples of aggregate are mixed with water and then placed into the glass jar. When a proper sample is achieved it is allowed to flow through the funnel into the 100ml copper cylindrical measure. The measure has a centering hole which ensures the accuracy and the repeatability of the test. A spatula is used to strike off the excess aggregate and the results are then recorded. The apparatus consists of a funnel, funnel stand, glass jar, 100ml cylindrical measure, and a glass plate for calibration.

Length Gauge for Elongation Index

The C9605 Length Gauge is used for determining the Elongation Index. A particle is elongated when its length (longest dimension) is more than 1.8 of the midsize of the sieve fraction. The length gauge has 6 labeled openings between pairs of metal pins for measuring length of particle from each of the 6 sieve cuts below 50mm. The mass of the elongated particles (failing to pass between pins) as percent of the sample is the Elongation Index.

Aggregate Washer

The C9151 Durability Washing Vessel is a flat bottomed, straight-sided cylindrical vessel used for determining the durability of aggregates. The C9721 & C9722 Aggregate Washer is ideal for vigorous agitation of samples without loss of any part of the sample or water. Since the vessel is motorized, the inconsistencies of the manual operator are virtually eliminated. The samples are automatically washed to remove clay and other fines passing through a #200 sieve. The stainless steel drum (11" dia. x 13" h) has a tilting mechanism with lever for locking in four angle positions to flush out washed samples. Also furnished with the vessel is a water connection and valve. The C9721A is a smaller version aggregate washer which has a unique stainless steel drum (9" dia. x 10-3/4" h) which can be removed for weighing the sample. The smaller size also allows placement on a counter top next to a sink drain.

Protoportional Caliper Device

Determining the shape characteristics of coarse aggregates is essential for handling and/or performance of materials or mixes. The C9600 is designed to rapidly determine the percentages of flat and elongated particles in coarse aggregate fractions of 3/8" (9.5mm) or larger. The device consists of an 8 x 16" (203 x 406mm) base plate with two fixed posts and a 13" (330mm) pivoting arm mounted between the posts so that there is an opening at the end of each arm. The pivoting arm's position is adjusted by securing a pivot screw at one of three threaded positions to provide end opening ratios of 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, or 1:5. The device is constructed from zinc plated steel and precision-tooled for accuracy.

Grout Flow Cone

The C2650 (3/4" orifice) & C2651 (1/2" orifice) Grout Flow Cone are for laboratory and field use in determining flow of grout mixtures by measuring the time of discharge of a specified volume of grout from a standardized flow cone. Concrete Capping Fixtures

These fixtures are for capping concrete cylinders for compressive strength testing. There are two types of capping fixtures. The C5101 has a welded steel upright aligning guide for positioning the cylinder. The base has a machined recess to hold the compound while the aligning guide holds the cylinder at a 90o angle to the base. The base is also precision ground to provide an extremely flat testing face. The C5102 is similar to C5101, however, it has an aluminum alloy aligning guide instead of the welded steel guide. This fixture also has a detachable ring recess instead of a fixed recess for holding the capping compound. The two piece capping fixture is also available in 2", 3", and 4" models. Pad and cap Set

The pad and cap set is an accurate, consistent, and time saving device used with an unbonded capping system for compression testing of concrete cylinders. The set consists of two compression pads which are constructed of tough elastometric material that flows into the irregularities in the ends of the cylinders and distributes the test load uniformly without creating air pockets. Also included in the set are two restraining caps machined from high alloy steel to the same tolerances as the test platens to restrain the pads. The steel has a minimal temperature variation and no deflection under load. The high alloy steel from which they are constructed is scratch resistant which reduces the need for re machining. The pads are reusable up to 100 or more times. Eliminates noxious odors from capping compound.

Ball Penetration Apparatus (Kelly Ball)

The C4301 Ball Penetration Device is used for determining depth of penetration of metal weight in fresh concrete. The apparatus consists of a metal ball with rounded bottom, graduated rod, handle and stirrer. The weight is placed in the concrete and the depth of penetration noted on the rod. Also furnished with the device is a 30 lb metal cylinder with hemispherical bottom and graduated handle. A frame is also included to guide the handle and serve as a reference point. Concrete can be tested as placed in the forms prior to any manipulation or in a suitable container.

Tank Heater

The C5056 is designed for efficient and economical indoor operation with curing tanks where temperature does not fall below 55°F (13°C). The temperature is controlled and adjustable by the thermostat. The 1,000 Watt, 115V/60Hz solid state controlled element will warm to a maximum of 160°F. The heater is incoloy sheathed to prevent rust and is secured to aluminum base. The base provides protection for heater components from test cylinders. Overall length: 22-1/2". The C5058 heavy-duty circular loop tank heater is designed for large capacity curing tanks. The thermostat has a range of 0°F to 100°F. The heater also features a capillary and bulb which serves as a temperature sensing device. The heater must have a minimum of 6" of solution above the heating coils in order to prevent overheating damage. A pilot light indicates when the heater is working. The heater attaches to the side of the curring tank. The C5059 two speed Heater / Circulator features an analog controller with proportional temperature control. Suitable for use with any tank bath to create a highly accurate constant temperature circulating system at above ambient temperatures. Vicat Apparatus with Mold

The C3501 Vicat Apparatus is used for determining consistency and setting time of hydraulic cement. The apparatus consists of a frame, moveable rod with a variable weights and plunger assemblies, adjustable scale with graduations from 0-50mm, and a conical mold (C3503). The apparatus also has a reversible stainless steel plunger which is 10mm at one end and has a 1mm dia stainless steel needle on the other end. The C3512 Modified Vicat Apparatus is very similar to the C3503 except it uses a 400g weight of 10mm plunger, indicator and added weight. The C3512 is also furnished with the C3503 mold. The C3514 Time of Setting Vicat Needle Apparatus is similar to the C3512 except it features a 17.5 dia needle for consistency determination; 400 g total weight. The C3515 Modified Vicat Apparatus includes a 35g magnesium cone for use on unsanded plaster. Also furnished with the apparatus is the C3503 mold. Core Length Device

The C7051 Core Length Device is used for measuring the length of cores drilled from concrete structures or pavements. This is especially important for determining the thickness of pavements and other slab construction. Measurements made are averaged and reported as the length of concrete core. Scratch Hardness Tester

The scratch hardness tester is used for determining the percentage of soft particles in coarse aggregates by the scratch hardness test method. Particles are scratched with a brass rod and those on which a groove is made separated and termed soft. The percentage of soft particles is determined by their weight compared with the weight of the total sample. Apparatus is essentially the Federal Highway Administration type. The tester has a support stand with guides and 1/16" (1.6mm) dia. brass rod with a rounded point inserted into the steel plunger. The plunger is mounted on the support stand, which allows the plunger to lower and raise freely. The overall weight of brass point and plunger weight is 2 ±0.1 lbs. Mortar Penetrometer

The C2701 Field Mortar Penetrometer is used for determining the setting time of concrete mixtures by penetration resistance. The penetrometer is a spring dynamometer with a scale on the stem which is graduated to 100 x 2 lbs with each circular division 10 lbs. The device is furnished with six needles (1, 1/2, 1/4, 1/10, 1/20, 1/40 sq. in) and a reinforced carrying case. Replacement resistance needles are available. The C2705 Laboratory Mortar Penetrometer is hydraulic and is designed for the Federal Highway Department. Concrete Maturity Meter

The multi-channel concrete maturity meter used to determine the earliest safe removal of concrete forms and shoring in the field. Displays both concrete temperature and maturity number simultaneously and the four channels can be used together. All information is available on the menu driven alphanumeric display. The meter utilizes inexpensive, quick connecting T type thermocouple wire. The datum temperature is programmable from -20°C to 50°C (-12°F to +122°F). Compressometer & Extensometer

The C6955 compressometer is used for evaluating the vertical deformation and strain characteristics of 6" X 12" concrete cylinders while undergoing compression testing. Included are two cast aluminum alloy yokes, mounting points and central points, stainless steel control rods, and precision dial gauge with 2" travel. The C6955D is the same as the G6955, but offers a precision digital indicator. The C6956 combination compressometer/extensometer is the same as the compressometer except that there is a hinged third yoke between the other two yokes that measures the horizontal deformation of 6" X 12" concrete cylinders along with the vertical measurement. The third yoke has two opposing contact points that expand with the cylinder and the expansion is measured with an independent dial gauge. Therefore, the device measures both change in length and diameter.

These double insulated concrete vibrators are used for settling concrete in beam forms and cylinder molds. The design features exceed UL and OSHA requirements. Sand Equivalent Shaker

These sand equivalency shakers are used along with the sand equivalency test set to perform equivalency tests. The manual shaker (C9161) consists of a carriage with a tube holder mounted on spring steel straps. Also included is a stroke indicator and counter mounted on one end. The oscillating action can be started and maintained by hand. The motorized sand equivalency shaker (C9165) provides a consistent and repeatable oscillation, eliminating variations from one operator to the next. The unit has a throw of 8" and operates at 175 cycles per minute. Hand knob with built in spring holds the cylinder and stopper in place. A built-in timing circuit controls the operating time from 45 seconds to 10 Minutes. This shaker is also used with the SHRP method.
